Students from Galen University participated in a three-day workshop learning about the science, theory, and technique to produce the first DNA barcodes in Belize by Belizeans.
Our second summer in Belize, July, 2013 has been supported by funding from CUNY’s GK-12 program, the European Society for Evolutionary Biology, and NSF’s GRFP. With this generous support we have assembled the necessary equipment for a portable DNA lab. We ran a three-day DNA barcoding workshop at Galen University with Professor Sherry Gibbs and the environmental science and anthropology students. We hope this will be part of an ongoing education program in Belize and the start of a permanent molecular biology laboratory in Belize.
